The biggest difference between the planar transformer and the traditional transformer is the iron core and the winding. Planar transformers use small size E, RM or ring ferrite core, usually made of high frequency power ferrite material, with low core loss at high frequency; The winding is made of multilayer printed circuit board, and the winding or copper sheet is superimposed on the high frequency iron core of the plane to form the magnetic circuit of the transformer. This design has low dc copper resistance, low leakage and distributed capacitance, which can meet the design requirements of resonant circuit. And because of the good magnetic shielding of the magnetic core, radio frequency interference can be suppressed.
Compared with traditional transformers, planar transformers mainly have the following characteristics:
(1) High current density. Planar transformer wires are actually some planar conductors, so the current density is high.
(2) High efficiency. The efficiency can reach 98% ~ 99%.
(3) low leakage sensation. About 0.2% of the primary inductance.
(4) Good heat conduction. Short distance of hot channel and low temperature rise.
(5) Low EMI radiation. Good core shielding can reduce radiation to very low levels.
(6) Small size. A small magnetic core is used to reduce the size.
(7) Good repeatability of parameters. Because the winding structure is fixed and pre-machined, the parameters are stable.
(8) Wide working frequency range. The frequency ranges from 10KHz to 800KHz.
(9) Wide working temperature range. The operating temperature is -40℃ ~ 130℃.
(10) Good insulation. The planar transformer is composed of conductive circuit and insulating sheet overlapping each other, so as to ensure that the windings, primary - secondary and secondary can reach 4 kV insulation isolation.
