Product Introduction

Waveguide Isolators, are non-reciprocal two-port ferrite devices designed to allow microwave signals to travel in one direction while suppressing reverse reflections. By absorbing reflected power, they effectively protect transmitters, power amplifiers, and other sensitive RF components from impedance mismatch and reflected energy. Our waveguide isolators cover frequencies from 1.13 GHz to 22 GHz, with custom solutions available up to 40 GHz. Featuring low insertion loss, high isolation, high power handling capability, and low VSWR, they are widely used in radar systems, RF power amplifiers, microwave communications, electronic warfare, aerospace, satellite communications, broadcasting, and test equipment.

FAQ

Q: How does a waveguide isolator work?

A: A waveguide isolator utilizes the non-reciprocal magnetic properties of ferrite materials. Microwave signals pass through the device with minimal loss in the forward direction, while reflected signals traveling in the reverse direction are absorbed by an internal termination. This protects transmitters and other RF components from damage caused by reflected power.

Q: How do I select the correct frequency range?

A: Select the isolator according to your operating frequency and corresponding waveguide standard. For example, WR340 is commonly used for S-band (2–4 GHz) applications, while WR90 is designed for X-band (8–12 GHz) systems. SHINHOM also provides customized solutions for other frequency bands and waveguide standards.

Q: How should I choose the required power rating?

A: The power handling capability should exceed the transmitter's maximum output power. For example, the SH-14WHPDP supports up to 40 kW, making it suitable for high-power radar systems, while the SH-180WHPDP supports up to 800 W for medium-power microwave applications.

Q: Which is more important, insertion loss or isolation?

A: Both parameters are critical. Low insertion loss (≤0.3 dB) minimizes forward transmission loss and improves system efficiency, while high isolation (≥20 dB) effectively absorbs reflected power and protects RF sources. The optimal balance depends on the system's link budget, power level, and performance requirements.
